1 · Who we are

AS IT LIES is built by AppDesignGeeks. For anything on this page (questions, corrections, deletion requests) email info@asitlies.app. That address is the one place to write.

2 · What we collect

Your display name and group, and, if you choose to enter them, a playing handicap and a Venmo username for settling up. The Venmo username is shown to your group when a settle-up transfer points at you; that is its job.
Photos of paper scorecards. A scorecard is a shared document: your photo shows the names and scores of everyone in your group, as written in ink.
Per-hole scores, the raw text of what the model read from each photo, and a record of any digit the app read that a person then corrected.
Scan-processing telemetry: which model read the card, how long it took, how confident it was. Numbers about the software, not about you.
Your email, if you join the launch list on this site: the address, when you signed up, which page it came from, and your browser's user-agent string. Nothing else. We use it for launch news and occasional product updates only, and every mail we ever send will include a working unsubscribe.
Game records for the formats your group turns on: stakes entered for a pot or nassau, and, if two scans of the same hole disagree, a record of the dispute and who ruled on it.
A push token, if you turn notifications on: the anonymous device address Apple or Google uses to deliver alerts like lead changes. It identifies a device to the notification service, nothing more, and is deleted when you turn notifications off.
An account, if you want one. Signing in is optional and email-only: we mail a one-time code to your address, so there is no password to lose. The account holds your email address, the display name you choose, and the date you created it. Sign-in codes are stored only as hashes and expire; a signed-in session is a random token kept on your phone, and we store only its fingerprint, never the token itself. An account does one job: it ties the seats you have played to you, so your rounds and your handicap follow you to a new phone. Playing with no account stays first-class and always will.
Anonymous usage analytics: which pages get visited and where people tap, in the app and on this site. The events are never tied to your account or your name, and in the app the text of what you tapped is masked before anything is sent, so scores, names, and join codes never leave the phone this way. We use it for one thing: seeing which parts of the product earn their place.
On your own device: your current outing session and a local history of outings you've joined. That history stays on the device on its own. If you sign in, the outings you have claimed are listed from the server instead, which is what lets them follow you to a new phone.

That is the whole list. No location, no contacts, no ad identifiers. The only account we offer is the optional email sign-in above: no password, no profile, and never required to play.

And shared by design: everyone in your outing sees your display name, your scores, and your handicap if you entered one. An outing's follow link shows the live leaderboard, including your name and scores, to anyone who has the link, no account needed. Share it the way you'd share the paper card: with people you're happy to have watching.

3 · Why we collect it

Three reasons: to run the live leaderboard, to keep a tamper-proof record of the round; the photo is the evidence when someone says "no way that was a 5", and to make the scorecard reading more accurate over time using the corrections people confirm.

4 · Who processes it

Everything is hosted on Microsoft Azure, in the United States. Card photos are sent to Google (the Gemini API), or, as a fallback, Anthropic, to read the scores. Under the paid API terms we use, that data is not used to train their models. Those providers hold submitted data briefly under their own terms; we cannot reach into that window (see §6). Course names and pars come from golfcourseapi.com; no personal data is sent there. Settling up opens Venmo on your own phone with the amount pre-filled; we never touch the payment and Venmo never receives data from us. This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which sees the standard web request when the page loads. The anonymous usage analytics from §2 are processed by PostHog, in the United States.

No ad tech and no data sales. Ever.

5 · How long we keep it

Outing records (scores, card photos, corrections) are kept permanently as the round's audit trail, unless you ask us to delete them (§6). During a round, no participant can delete or alter the evidence; that protection is the product.
Launch-list emails are kept until launch mail is sent, or removed on request.
Your account is kept until you delete it, which you can do yourself in the app. Sign-in codes are discarded once used or expired; signed-in sessions end when you sign out, and in any case about a year after you last used one.
Server request logs (IP addresses, request paths) are operational and age out on a short rolling window: days, not months.
Database backups purge deleted data automatically as the backup window rolls over, on the order of a week.
Anonymous analytics events are kept as long as they inform product decisions. They identify no one, so there is no identity in them to delete.

6 · Your choices

Delete your account yourself. If you made one, the app deletes it on the spot, no email required: your sign-in, your sessions, your email address and your display name go, and your name is unlinked from every seat you claimed. Those seats keep the display name your group wrote on the card, and the outings, scorecards and leaderboards your group shares stay as they are. That is the point of a shared record, and it is the next two options below if you want more.

For anything beyond that, email info@asitlies.app and ask. Two things we can do, at your choice of size:

Remove your identity. Your name becomes "Player N"; your handicap and Venmo username are erased. Your scores and scans stay, attributed to no one.
Delete your evidence. Everything above, plus your rounds (the scores, the scan rows, and your card photos) are deleted. We keep only the anonymous correction records (digits, no names), which identify no one.

And the honest limits, stated up front: scorecards are shared records; deleting your data removes your identity and your rounds, but your first name may remain visible in your group's card photos unless the whole group asks us to delete the outing. Deleted data leaves backups as the backup window rolls over, and we cannot retract what a vision provider briefly holds under its own terms. Requests made during a live outing are completed once it ends: days, not months.

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct, or delete your data, and we honor it the same way regardless of state or country. We acknowledge requests within 7 days and complete them within 30 days of verifying it's really you. Data on your own device is yours: delete the app or clear the site's data and it's gone.

7 · Children

AS IT LIES is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Revisions are dated at the top of this page. If a change is material, the launch list hears about it.
